Installing the User Client

Other Related Topics...

Prior to installing the FaxPress client software for users on a Windows PC or workstation, please confirm the following:

Make sure the workstation is configured to use the same network protocol as the FaxPress server you will use. See your FaxPress Administrator for details.
Exit all Windows programs.

To install the FaxPress client:

1. Place the FaxPress 9.x CD-ROM into the workstation’s CD-ROM drive. The installation programs will be automatically launched and the Castelle FaxPress Setup screen will be displayed.

2. The FaxPress 9.1 release includes the FaxPress 9.1.5 server and client software as an added option. When installing the client software, select the FaxPress software version compatible with your current server software.

FaxPress 9.1 server/client architecture is optimized specifically for PCL-based cover pages. FaxPress 9.1 uses PCL as the default cover page format, although Word is also an option. FaxPress 9.1 server software does NOT support FaxPress 9.1.5, FaxPress 8.1.5 and FaxPress 8.0 Rev C client software, but is backwards compatible with all other earlier versions of FaxPress client software.

FaxPress 9.1.5 server/client architecture is optimized specifically for Word cover pages. If you intend to use Word for fax broadcasting, install the 9.1.5 server and client software. FaxPress 9.1.5 uses Word as the default cover page format, although using PCL-based cover pages is also supported. Please note that the FaxPress 9.1.5 server software ONLY supports FaxPress 9.1.5, FaxPress 8.1.5 and FaxPress 8.0 Rev C client software. If FaxPress 9.1.5 server software is used, all clients must be running FaxPress 9.1.5, FaxPress 8.1.5 or FaxPress 8.0 Rev C client software. FaxPress 9.1.5 server software is not backwards compatible with any other earlier versions of FaxPress client software.

3. The Welcome screen requires you to click Next>.
4. Select User Installation.

5. The Default protocol for a FaxPress screen requires you to select the network protocol for the client to use to communicate with the FaxPress.

If the FaxPress client is installed on a Windows 2000/2003 or XP system, but will use IPX/SPX to communicate with the FaxPress server, the NetWare client version 4.83 SP1 or newer must be installed.

6. If you choose IPX/SPX, setup will confirm Microsoft Client for NetWare is installed on your workstation, and this screen will appear.
7. The Destination Directory window requires you to approve the default installation directory, or Browse to a new one.

8. Use the Personal Folders screen to choose where to store your personal files and documents. Specify the personal folders directory on your local drive or on a network drive if you want to share those folders with other users. To change the location of your personal folders, use the Personal Preferences Options in FaxPress. See Setting Personal Preferences in the FaxPress User Guide.
9. Use the Language screen to select the language of the FaxPress interface. English is the default.
10. The FaxPress Fax Report feature is only compatible with the Crystal Report version 9.2.0.448. If this client workstation is running any version of Crystal Report other than 9.2.0.448, click No. If this workstation is not running any version of Crystal Report, or if the version is 9.2.0.448, click Yes.
11. In the Select Program Folder screen, use the default FaxPress folder provided, or choose a new folder.
12. If you are re-installing the FaxPress software, an Installation Information window will display alerting you to the existence of a previous installation of FaxPress.

Click Yes to keep your previous settings or No to overwrite them and continue with the installation.

13. To start using the FaxPress client, you should first restart your computer. Choose the Restart option from the Setup Complete window, or if you do not intend to launch the FaxPress software immediately, you can choose the Restart later option. If you are creating a remote client, be sure to select Restart now.

Installing Software from the Network

If you install the client software from the network, only the FaxPress User Client installation will be available. You will not be able to install the Administration Tools that are available when installing the Administrator installation option.
